IVF Story

My IVF Journey in Cancun, Mexico: A Story of Hope, Heartbreak, and Healing

I never imagined I'd be writing this. I'm a 46-year-old single man, and for all of my life, I dreamed of fatherhood deep inside. In early 2024, I made a decision that would change everything: I was going to become a dad. And I was going to do it through IVF in Cancun, Mexico.

April 2024 — The Beginning

It started with a consultation. I was nervous and excited. Sitting in a clinic in Cancun, listening to professionals who not only understood the science, but also the emotional weight of this journey, I felt a strange mix of vulnerability and hope. That day, I chose an egg donor—someone whose profile resonated deeply with me. She was smart, kind-looking, and reminded me of the kind of strength I’d want my child to inherit.

May 2024 — The First Steps

I returned to Cancun to deposit my semen sample and undergo testing. It was surreal—clinical, but intimate in its own way. This wasn’t just about fertility—it was about creating life. I signed the official contract to begin my IVF journey. It felt like signing into a future I had once thought impossible.

July 2024 — The Egg Retrieval

In Mexico City, the donor underwent her egg retrieval. I wasn’t there physically, but emotionally I was on edge. Days later, the eggs were safely frozen and shipped to Cancun for fertilization. I waited every day for updates like they were golden letters from the future.

August 2024 — The Embryos

Five embryos were successfully created and sent out for PGT (Preimplantation Genetic Testing). The wait was excruciating. When the results came in, I had two healthy embryos—a boy and a girl. I remember holding my breath as I read the email, whispering to myself, “I’m going to be a dad.”

September 2024 — The First Surrogate

A surrogate mother was assigned in Cancun. She was kind, experienced, and hopeful. I was filled with anticipation—maybe too much, in hindsight. We decided to transfer the girl embryo first.

October – November 2024 — Heartbreak

The girl embryo was transferred, and for two weeks I lived on edge. Every update, every phone call made my heart race. And then came the words no future parent wants to hear: the transfer was unsuccessful. I was devastated. There’s no way to prepare for that kind of emotional hit. Even though we hadn’t met yet, I had already pictured her in my arms. Losing that hope was like losing a little piece of my heart.

January 2025 — A Second Chance

Hope returned. A new surrogate mother was assigned. This time, we transferred the boy embryo. It was my last embryo, my last chance—at least in this journey. I tried to guard my heart, but deep down I was all in again.

February – March 2025 — The Heartbeat

In February, I got the call: positive pregnancy test. I didn’t breathe for several seconds. In March, the heartbeat was detected. Steady. Strong. Normal. I cried. A lot. But this time, they were tears of joy. I was finally letting myself believe this was happening.

April – June 2025 — Growing Strong

Each month since has been a quiet celebration. The baby is developing normally. Heart rate perfect. Structure on target. My baby boy is now 25 weeks along—estimated 13 inches long and 1.5 lbs. Every ultrasound, every update fills me with awe. I talk to him sometimes. I tell him I’m here. I tell him I’ve waited my whole life for him.

Today — 25 Weeks In

This journey hasn’t been easy. There were moments when I questioned everything. But sitting here, knowing my son is growing strong inside a courageous surrogate, I can say with confidence—this was the best decision I’ve ever made.

If you're reading this and you're considering this path—whether you're single, older, or just unsure—know that you are not alone. Cancun has given me more than just medical care. It gave me a chance at fatherhood. And soon, it will give me my son.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to my team who believed in me when I could barely believe in myself.

And to anyone wondering if this is possible for you—it is. And it’s beautiful.

Why IVF?

Egg
Retrieval

Egg retrieval is a key step in the IVF process, where mature eggs are carefully collected from a woman's ovaries to be fertilized in a controlled environment. This procedure is minimally invasive and performed under sedation, ensuring comfort and precision. During the retrieval, a specialized needle guided by ultrasound is used to extract the eggs, which are then immediately assessed for quality in a laboratory. Egg retrieval is a critical component of IVF, offering individuals and couples the opportunity to create embryos that can lead to successful pregnancies.

Egg
Donors

The selection of an egg donor is a significant aspect of the surrogacy journey, and at Advanced IVF, we understand this better than anyone. We recognize that every intended parent has unique preferences and criteria when choosing an egg donor for surrogacy in Mexico, and we are committed to offering a diverse and exceptional selection to exceed intended parents’ expectations. We are proud to offer the largest egg donor selection in Mexico, providing intended parents with a wide range of options, including egg donors from United States, Mexico, Europe, Australia, as well as other countries in Latin America and beyond. We directly recruit our own egg donors, ensuring that they exclusively work with our program and do not donate for any other agency.

Embryo
Fertilization

Two common methods can be used to try to fertilize eggs with sperm: Conventional insemination. Healthy sperm and mature eggs are mixed and kept in a controlled environment called an incubator. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). A single healthy sperm is injected right into each mature egg. Often, ICSI is used when semen quality or number is an issue. Or it might be used if fertilization attempts during prior IVF cycles didn't work.

Surrogacy
Process

Surrogacy is an advanced reproductive option that enables individuals or couples to achieve parenthood when natural conception or pregnancy is not possible. In this process, a surrogate mother carries and delivers a child on behalf of the intended parents.

Sperm
Donor

A sperm donor offers a critical resource for individuals and couples seeking to grow their families through assisted reproductive technology. By providing healthy genetic material, sperm donors play a vital role in helping those facing infertility or other reproductive challenges achieve their dream of parenthood.

Surrogacy Agency

Advanced IVF, a clinic of reproduction & fertility of high level in Mexico, our treatments can achieve success rates over 90% effectiveness. In addition, we have the best fertility specialists & surrogate mothers to ensure that all couples can achieve the dream of having a child.

Gender
Selection

ivf

Gender selection is an optional service and is included when choosing the optional pre-implantation genetics testing (PGT), which is a complex embryo screening all 23 pairs of human chromosomes to detect an incorrect number of chromosomes in the embryo (aneuploidy).  Chromosomal abnormalities often lead to pregnancy complications, miscarriage or disorders such as extra copies of chromosomes.

Sperm
Washing

in vitro fertilization

It is a privilege for Advanced IVF to offer surrogacy programs to all intended parents, regardless of HIV status. For HIV+ intended parents or those with Hepatitis B, we must complete a process known as “sperm washing,” will be done at the time of your semen deposit.

Multiple
Pregnancy

in vitro fertilisation

If your surrogate is pregnant with twins, an additional twin payment will be added to your Stage 3 Payment at week 24 of pregnancy. Twin pregnancies are by nature higher risk, and your surrogate will receive additional payments, attention, and care.
